Competitors were determined by individual homeroom and English class competitions. Eighth-grader Connor Brunson won the competition and will head to the News Sentinel Southern Appalachia Regional Spelling Bee, which will take place on Saturday, March 4th, 2017 at the University of Tennessee. Sixth-grader Ann Grzywacz-Jones was a very strong contender and was the runner-up in the competition and will compete for SHCS in the event Connor cannot attend.
