Dear Sacred Heart Cathedral School Family,
After an extensive nationwide search, our Principal Search Committee has unanimously recommended to me a new principal to lead our school. We had a great response to both our active and passive search processes and have had the opportunity to get to know a wide variety of candidates. Through phone interviews, an online assessment and onsite interviews, we were able to select a candidate who will be an excellent principal for our school. With great joy, I want to introduce you to Daniel J. Breen, who has accepted my offer to become the Principal of Sacred Heart Cathedral School beginning June 1, 2015.
Mr. Breen has nearly 25 years of teaching and administrative experience. Most recently, he has been the Principal at Christ the King Catholic School in Lexington, KY, a 525-student, Blue Ribbon and AdvancED school. As principal, Mr. Breen supervised 67 staff and faculty members, and completed the roll-out of an iPad program for the school.
In addition to his experience as a Principal, he has served as Dean of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at Cape Henry Collegiate School in Virginia Beach, VA. Mr. Breen also has extensive classroom experience and coached boys’ basketball for ten years, as well.
Mr. Breen holds a BA from Harvard University and MA from the University of Virginia. He will be completing the EdS (Education Specialist) degree in Educational Leadership in 2015.
Learn more about Mr. Breen’s passion for Catholic education in his Statement of Educational Philosophy.
Mr. Breen and his wife, Shealyn, have five children: John Paul (7), Gianna (6), Tressa (4), Clare (3) and Joseph (1). They love their faith and have been actively involved in parish work.
Following our Spring Break, we will have opportunities for our faculty, students, parents and alumni to meet and talk with Mr. Breen. On April 7th at 7:00pm, we will hold a wine and cheese party for parents, alumni, faculty and staff in the school gym. On April 8th and again on May 6th, Mr. Breen will have the opportunity to be on campus and begin a transition process with our faculty and staff individually during the day and as a group in the afternoon during early dismissal time. Students will also be meeting Mr. Breen on April 8th and May 6th.
I want to thank Mrs. Sarah Trent for the leadership she has provided our school. We have been blessed by her gifts and vision.
I also want to thank the members of the search committee for all of their efforts: Fr. Joe Reed, Mrs. Joni Punch, Dr. Rob McKeown, Ms. Jennifer Shaffer, Dr. Gina Hummel, Dr. Patrick Biddix, Mrs. Mary Mac Wilson, Mr. Michael Torregiano, Mrs. Tanya Bellanger, Mrs. Lisa Maki, Mrs. Nicole Erwin and Sr. Mary Marta Abbott, R.S.M. (Superintendent). They have generously given of their time to assist us in selecting a great leader for our school and will continue to assist with the transition process. I invite your prayers during this exciting time and I look forward to continuing our commitment to our faith, our family, and our future.
Please join me in congratulating Mr. Breen and welcoming him in his new role at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
