Helping Others at Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving Basket Drive
In East Tennessee, 1 in 4 children are hungry. For Sacred Heart’s first mission project this year, students collected food for Thanksgiving baskets for less fortunate children and families in our community.
K-8 Sacred Heart students sent in over 800 cans of food and donated a grand total of $1,081 towards perishable foods! Incredible!
To put this in interesting terms, turkeys are $0.50 a pound at Kroger right now. The monetary donations could provide over 2,150 lbs. of turkey. That’s a lot of meat! Along with the perishable goods, everything combined will provide about 200 area families with a wonderful Thanksgiving meal this holiday season.
The faculty and staff at SHCS could not be more proud of our students (and the parents) generosity and willingness to serve!
A special thanks to Mrs. Brach’s 6th graders who helped collect, sort, and pack boxes as well as the six spectacular 8th grade boys who helped carry boxes and load the Ladies of Charity truck on Wednesday afternoon.
