The schools in the Diocese of Knoxville do not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, national, or ethnic origin and they do not offer academic or athletic scholarships.
It is the policy of the Diocese of Knoxville that no Catholic child living in the diocese shall be denied a Catholic school education because of parent inability to pay tuition. Supplemental tuition assistance is available to help Catholic families most in need meet the tuition cost for their children enrolled in Catholic schools.
The Knoxville Region Catholic Schools Tuition Assistance Fund has been established to provide supplemental tuition assistance for Catholic children attending Knoxville Catholic High School, Sacred Heart Cathedral School, St. John Neumann School and St. Joseph School. A Catholic child is defined as a child who has been baptized, is Catholic, and whose family regularly attends Sunday Mass and actively supports the parish via time, talent and treasure as verified by their pastor. The Tuition Assistance Fund is primarily funded by parishes with children in these four schools.
The pastors of these parishes have contracted with Catholic Charities to administer all requests for supplemental tuition assistance. The objective of this process is not only to determine the level of tuition assistance, but also to make available guidance in establishing a sound household budget. Financial aid is not automatically renewable. Each family seeking supplemental tuition assistance must reapply for it each year. Applicants seeking supplemental tuition assistance may obtain the Tuition Assistance Request Packet from the SHCS Business Office.
Every family requesting supplemental tuition assistance must have their completed packet to Catholic Charities by March 2, 2007.
Since our parishes have limited resources to provide to the Tuition Assistance Fund each year, families need to recognize that there is a set amount of funds available for 2007-2008 supplemental tuition assistance. Catholic Charities is aware of the total amount available for Supplemental Tuition Assistance and will make their recommendations inside of these parameters.
Eighty percent (80%) of the total amount available will be used for families who turn in their completed packet by the March 2nd deadline. Catholic Charities will notify these families by May 23rd of the supplemental tuition assistance amounts provided.
Ten percent (10%) of the total amount available will be used for families who turn in their completed packet between March 3rd and May 4th. These families will automatically receive a less amount of supplemental tuition assistance for late application. Catholic Charities will notify this second round of families by July 1st of the supplemental tuition assistance amounts provided.
The remaining ten percent (10%) of the total amount available will be for families who move into the area after May 4th or who experience a change in circumstances during the school year.
