ATHLETICS

The purpose of the Sacred Heart Cathedral School Athletic Program is to encourage the growth of Christ-like behavior by encouraging sportsmanship, commitment, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for others and one’s self through interscholastic athletics.

Sacred Heart competes in the Knoxville Independent Schools League (KISL), consisting of private and religious schools in and around Knox County. We also emphasize academics first and require athletes to meet a higher standard at SHCS.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parent volunteer coaches and our Sacred Heart Staff that help make our program so successful.

The following are a few highlights from the past 5 years:

  • Our middle school boys football team are the new 2008 Knox County Champions and have had several undefeated and championship teams in the Knox County Football League recently.
  • Our boys and girls basketball teams have made five straight trips to the State Tournament with the boys winning a state championship in 2002 and the girls winning the state in 2008!
  • Our boys and girls have had undefeated seasons and county championships in soccer in the Knox County League. The girls championship title came in 2007.
  • Our tennis teams—boys and girls– have helped produced two nationally ranked players and have been very competitive in their league.
  • Cross Country has won the KISL Championship and has runners in the State Championships each year.
  • We also have competitive teams in varsity softball, golf, and volleyball.
  • Our cheerleaders have won numerous awards for sportsmanship and execution

In order to foster greater appreciation of the Lord's day of rest, the gymnasium and field on the campus of Sacred Heart Cathedral will not be available for use by competitive athletic organizations on Sundays.
