From The Principal’s Desk 12/29/2020

Dec 29, 2020

Dear Sacred Heart Family,

I want to contact you with important information regarding the start of the second semester. After consultation with local health experts and careful consideration of the needs and preferences of our community, our school leadership community has decided to extend our break and to start school in person on January 11, 2021. Please see the attached letter from our superintendent, Dr. Sedonna Prater.

I also wanted to thank you for your participation in our survey last week. 90% of our entire community, families, and faculty participated in the survey. This input was invaluable, and it allowed our diocesan team to thoughtfully reflect on the perspectives of our community. Here are the key takeaways from the survey:

–65% of respondents prefer a late start; 25% preferred beginning January 4th; 10% were undecided.

–63% of respondents prefer we delay rather than begin with virtual learning; 15% preferred virtual learning; 22% were undecided.

–The majority of our community, both faculty and families, are taking measures to socially distance, such as avoiding holiday travel and limiting exposure to non-household contacts. Thank you all for your efforts.

We will continue to monitor our school community and the greater Knoxville area with respect to COVID-19, and we will keep our community informed should any further changes be made.

Lastly, please email Mary Metz at mmetz@shcknox.org if you are unable to find childcare for the week of 1/4-8 so we can support you.

Please read Dr. Prater’s letter below. We pray you have had a healthy and happy break.

Grace and peace,
